Garrett Dooley

Garrett Dooley - Junior Engineer (Mechanical)

Garrett DooleyA recent graduate from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Garrett has joined the Prometheus team as the first full time member of the team. He is a mechanical engineer.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Garrett graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 2003.  He was then accepted by Dalhousie into their Mechanical Engineering program, where he graduated with distinction in 2008.  His final year design project was the recipient of the 2008 APENS Senior Project Award.

Throughout his five years at Dalhousie, Garrett garnered much experience outside of his classtime.  Garrett's research experience incudes: working in Dalhousie's solar-thermal research lab, theoretical modelling for Dalhousie's Department of Engineering Mathematics, and working with the environmental awarness group of Defense Research & Development Canada Atlantic.

Thermocouples

As the ProSolarTec continues to improve its solar concentrating technology, the technologies used to measure and record data must also follow suit. Prometheus field tests currently use data acquisition software coupled with high-grade thermocouples to accurately measure temperatures of up to 8 different locations simultaneously. The testing has recently surpassed the upper limit of K-type thermocouples and in order to record these higher temperatures the Prometheus Team is now using platinum based R-type thermocouples. As the accuracy of the tests improves, more detailed fine-tuning can be executed on the prototypes, further increasing the success of the project's experiments.
